Well done to Dougie who has run the London Marathon, the club donated as did a lot of our members. The club has also supported Dougie in raising his funds for the MS Society through quizes etc.... Well done and good luck.

Chess Report 2013

18 ESSC members (aged from 9 to nearly 90) have represented the Chess Club in the Portsmouth & District League this season. We entered one team in each of the League's three divisions and one team in the Cup competition. Our first team currently tops Division 1; the B team leads Division 2 and the C team is equal second in Division 3. Equal second is also equal last, as three teams share the same score. First and last in the league – we cater for all abilities!

Our Cup team has made it to the Final, so we could still do the league and cup double.

More importantly, we have members who play chess for its social side and do not compete in the league. The numbers have ebbed and flowed over the past 12 months, but any ESSC member is welcome to come along on a Thursday to see what we are about.
